Losing valuable pictures on a smartphone is one of the most painful situations for a modern user. Whether it's important documents, rare travel photos, or just cute selfies, their disappearance causes panic. However, if you own a device from the brand Realme, you have several effective ways to recover lost data. The operating system on which these phones operate has built-in protection mechanisms against accidental deletion. Android, on which these phones operate, has built-in protection mechanisms against accidental deletion.
Before moving on to complex methods using a computer and special software, it is worth checking the standard system tools. In most cases, files are not erased from the physical media instantly, but are only moved to a special buffer or marked as free space. Response speed plays a key role here: the fewer actions you perform with the phone after detecting the loss, the higher the chances of success.
In this article we will analyze in detail the algorithms of actions for various scenarios. We will look at both native shell capabilities Realme UIand cloud services that could synchronize your data without your knowledge. We will also touch on the topic of specialized software for deep memory scanning.
Checking the built-in recycle bin in the Gallery application
Modern firmware versions Realme UI (starting from 2.0 and higher) are equipped with the โRecycle Binโ function directly in the Gallery system application. This is the first and most obvious point to check. When you click the delete button on an image, the system does not permanently erase it, but moves it to an isolated folder where the file is stored for a certain time.
Typically, the storage period for deleted photos in this folder is 30 days. After this period, the system automatically empties the recycle bin, and recovery becomes impossible using standard means. To get to this section, open the application Gallery and go to the tab Albums at the bottom of the screen.
Scroll the list of albums down to the very end. There you will find a folder named Recently deleted or Trash. Inside you will see all the pictures deleted in the last month. You can select specific files or click the button Select alland then use the option Recover.
If you If you donโt see the โTrashโ folder in the Gallery, check your application settings. Sometimes the feature is hidden or disabled in the privacy settings.
It is important to understand that if you manually emptied the Trash or more than 30 days have passed, this method will no longer work. In this case, the file is considered deleted from the file system, although the data may physically remain on the memory chip until it is overwritten by new information.
The built-in recycle bin of Realme UI stores deleted photos for 30 days, after which they are deleted permanently.
Recovery through the Google Photos service
The vast majority smartphones Android, including models Realme, have a pre-installed application Google Photos. Often, users don't even realize that automatic synchronization is enabled on their device. This means that a copy of your photo may have been saved in the cloud storage of your Google account even before it was deleted from your phone.
To check, open the application Google Photos and log in using the same account that was used on the phone. Go to section Library and select item Trash. Here the rules are similar to the system gallery: files are stored for 60 days unless you empty the trash manually earlier.
If the trash is empty, do not rush to get upset. Try using the archive function. Sometimes users accidentally archive photos instead of deleting them, and they disappear from the main feed, but are saved in a special section. Find the item Archive in the menu and view its contents.
How to check the synchronization status?
Click on your profile avatar in the upper right corner of the Google Photos application. The menu that opens will indicate the status of the backup and the address of the account to which it is being made. Make sure that this is your main account.
The advantage of cloud storage from Google is that even if your phone is reset to factory settings or it breaks, your photos will remain available. You just need to log into your account on any other device.
โ ๏ธ Attention: If you delete a photo from Google Photos on one device, it will be deleted from the cloud on all other synchronized devices. Proceed with caution when emptying the cloud recycle bin.
Using the Realme Cloud cloud service
The Company Realme is developing its own ecosystem of services, including cloud storage Realme Cloud. Although it is less popular than Google's solutions, many users enable it when setting up their phone for the first time. This service allows you to create backup copies of contacts, notes and, what is important for us, photos.
To check the availability of a backup, go to Settings your smartphone. Find a section that may be called User and accounts or simply Realme Cloud. Log in with your phone number or Realme account.
Inside the cloud service interface, find the section Gallery or Photo. If auto-sync has been enabled, you will see your photos there. The recovery procedure is simple: select the required files and click the download button to the device.
| Service | Storage period in cart | Synchronization type | Internet required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Realme Gallery | 30 days | Local | No |
| Google Photos | 60 days | Cloud | Yes (for access) |
| Realme Cloud | Depends on the tariff | Cloud | Yes |
| Third-party software | Not applicable | Deep scanning | No (often) |
It is worth noting that free space in Realme Cloud is limited. If the limit was reached, syncing new photos might stop automatically, and the latest photos might not get to the cloud.
Checking memory cards and external drives
Some smartphone models Realme support installation of memory cards of format microSD. If your photos were stored on an external card rather than in the phone's internal memory, the recovery process may be different. Deleting files from an SD card often occurs differently than from an internal drive.
Remove the memory card from the smartphone and insert it into the computer's card reader. Run a disk scan using the operating system Windows. Sometimes the file system of the card becomes damaged, and the files become invisible to the phone, but accessible to the PC.
To analyze the contents of the card on your computer, you can use a standard utility chkdsk. Open a command prompt as an administrator and enter the command:
chkdsk X: /f
Where X is the letter assigned to your memory card. This command will try to correct logical errors in the file system, after which hidden photo folders may become visible again.
โ๏ธ Actions when working with an SD card
If standard tools did not help, a memory card is an excellent object for specialized recovery apps, which we will talk about later. The chances of recovering data from an SD card are usually higher than from the internal flash memory of a smartphone.
Using specialized recovery software
When the built-in methods are exhausted, third-party data recovery apps come to the rescue. These utilities scan the device's memory for "traces" of deleted files. Among the popular solutions are Dr.Fone, DiskDigger, Recuva (for memory cards) and Tenorshare UltData.
To work with the internal memory of the phone, most apps require superuser rights (Root). Without them, the application will only be able to find thumbnails (cache) of photos, and not high-resolution originals. Obtaining root access to Realme is a complex procedure and can lead to loss of warranty.
The process usually looks like this: you install the app on your computer, connect your phone with a cable USB and start scanning. The app looks for memory sectors marked as free, but containing image data.
Before connecting the phone to the computer for recovery, be sure to enable the โUSB Debuggingโ mode in the โFor Developersโ menu. Without this, the computer will not gain deep access to the file system.
If you do not have root access, try applications that run directly on the phone, for example DiskDigger in basic mode. It will perform a superficial analysis of the cache and thumbnails. This will not return the photo in its original quality, but it will allow you to save at least smaller copies.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Installing recovery apps and scanning memory creates a new data record on the disk. This may overwrite the very deleted files you are trying to rescue. Use such methods only as a last resort.
Data loss prevention and important limitations
The most reliable way not to lose photos is regular backups. Set up automatic uploading to Google Photos or use third-party cloud services such as Yandex.Disk or Dropbox. It is also advisable to periodically transfer important archives to a computer or external hard drive.
You should remember the technical limitations of modern flash memory. Smartphones use memory type eMMC or UFSthat support command TRIM. This command tells the memory controller which blocks of data are no longer needed and can be cleared to speed up the writing of new data.
Once the TRIM command has been executed, physical data recovery becomes impossible even for professional laboratories. That is why time is against you: the longer the phone is used after deletion, the higher the likelihood of TRIM triggering and the final loss of files.
The TRIM command in modern drives can permanently clear deleted data in the background, so you cannot delay recovery.
Avoid installing heavy games or downloading large video files immediately after discovering missing photos. Any new data entry increases the risk of overwriting the sectors where your snapshots were stored. Ideally, the phone should be switched to airplane mode or turned off completely before the recovery procedure begins.
Is it possible to restore a photo if the phone has been reset to factory settings?
Restoring data after a hard reset is extremely difficult, and often impossible. During a reset, the system re-encrypts the memory or performs a full wipe command, which makes the old data unreadable. There is a chance only if the reset was performed incorrectly and was interrupted.
Are root access needed to restore photos on Realme?
To deeply scan the internal memory and restore original photos in full quality, root access is almost always necessary. Without them, apps see only the cache and thumbnails. However, obtaining Root will void the warranty and may interfere with the operation of banking applications.
How long are photos stored in the Google Photos recycle bin?
In the Google Photos service recycle bin, deleted images are stored for 60 days. After this period they are deleted automatically and permanently. If you delete them from the trash manually, it will be impossible to restore them.
What to do if photos are deleted from WhatsApp?
Photos from WhatsApp are often saved in a separate folder WhatsApp Images. Check the trash in the Gallery, as deleting from the chat may also delete the file from the Gallery. Also check the local backup copies of the WhatsApp database in the folder Databases, although it is more difficult to restore media files from there.
Will connecting the phone as a flash drive help?
Modern Realme phones do not support the simple connection mode as a flash drive (USB Mass Storage) for internal memory. They work in MTP mode. Direct access to memory sectors requires USB debugging mode and special software, and often root access.
