3. Hidden cache folders: where Telegram stores temporary files

Telegram actively uses the cache to speed up media loading. These files may occupy up to several gigabytes, but are not displayed in the main folders. Where to look for them:

4. How to change the default save folder

If the internal memory of the phone is full, you can transfer the saved media to memory card (SD) or to another location. To do this:

Download a file manager with root support. (for example, FX File Explorer);

Connect the SD card and format it as internal memory (if not already done);

Copy the folder /storage/emulated/0/Telegram/ to the memory card;

6. How to recover deleted files from Telegram

    Yes, there are two ways:

    1. Use desktop version of Telegram —the downloaded files will be saved to the folder Downloads on your PC.
    2. Connect your phone to the computer via USB, turn on the mode File transfer and manually copy the desired media from the folder /Telegram/.
    Why does Telegram create duplicate files in the gallery?

    This happens because of the function Save to gallery. When you click on it, Telegram copies the file to the standard media folder (for example, DCIM/Telegram), but the original remains. in /Telegram/Telegram Images. To avoid duplicates:

    • Use only standard saving (without the "to gallery" option);
    • Set an exception for the folder Telegram in the gallery (in some launchers, for example Nova Launcher, this is possible).
    How to prevent Telegram from saving media to your phone?

    Is it possible to transfer chat and media history to another phone?

    Yes, but with reservations:

    • 🔄 Regular chats: Use the function Export history in Settings → Chat. Media will be included in the archive, but takes up a lot of space.
    • 🔒 Secret chats: You cannot transfer them - they are tied to the device.
    • 📱 Manual transfer: Copy the folder /Telegram/ to a new phone, then log into the same account. The files will be downloaded, but the message history will not be restored.
