When the phone is face down or in your pocket, it is the unique sound signal that allows you to instantly understand who exactly is trying to reach you. This is especially critical in situations where you need to respond not to everyone, but only to specific people: your boss, close relatives or a courier.
The operating system Android provides users with flexible options for setting up sound notifications, but the interface may differ significantly depending on the manufacturer. Shells from Samsung, Xiaomi, Realme or pure Android on Pixel have different ways to access the necessary functions. In this material, we will analyze all existing methods, from standard to advanced, so that you can set up your smartphone as conveniently as possible.
Before you start setting up, make sure that you already have the desired audio file in the device’s memory. The system will not be able to assign a melody that does not physically exist in the storage or that is located in the cloud without the possibility of offline playback. Let's look in detail at the algorithm of actions for various use scenarios.
Standard method through the Phone application
The most obvious and fastest method of changing the ringtone is to use the built-in calling application. This method is universal and works on the vast majority of devices, regardless of the firmware version. You do not need to download third-party software or delve into deep system settings.
Open the application Phone and go to the Contact or Contact tab at the bottom of the screen. Find the desired subscriber in the list and click on his name to open the card. Here you will see all the available information: numbers, addresses, mail and, what is important to us, sound settings.
Click on the edit icon, which usually looks like a pencil, or find the button Edit in the upper corner. Scroll down the page to item Melody or Ringtone. By default, there may be the value "Default" or the name of the standard melody. By clicking on this item, you will open the system sound selection player.
In the list that opens, select your favorite song from the preset ones. If the file you need is not in the list, find the button Add melody or the plus icon +. The system will prompt you to select a file through the file manager. After selection, confirm the action with the button OK or tick.
