Messenger users Telegram often face a situation where they need to find a document, photo or video received a week or month ago. Unlike some other platforms, this service does not always save media files to public galleries by default, which can cause confusion.
The data storage system in the application is designed in such a way that files can be located both in the internal memory of the messenger itself and in public folders of the operating system Android. To do this, open a dialogue with your interlocutor or group, click on the chat name at the top of the screen. The conversation profile will open, where you need to select the tab Media. Here all content is sorted by type: photos, videos, files, music and links.
If you are looking for a specific document, switch to the tab Files. The system will show a list of all sent documents in chronological order. You can sort them by size or date by clicking on the corresponding filter icon.

To find the data manually, open the "Files" or "My Files" application and follow the path: Internal memory → Android → data → org.telegram.messenger → files → Telegram. This is where all downloaded application data is stored.
Inside this directory you will see several subfolders. The folder Telegram Images contains photographs, and Telegram Video contains videos. Documents and archives are usually located in a folder Telegram Documents.

Cleaning cache and memory management
Over time, folders with downloaded files can grow to several gigabytes. Messenger stores copies of all media you watch in a cache for quick access, even if you didn't save it explicitly.
To free up space, go to Settings → Data and memory → Memory usage. Here you will see statistics on used space and a button Clear cache.
It is important to understand the difference between the cache and saved files. Clearing the cache will delete temporary copies, but will not affect files you manually saved to your downloads folder or gallery. Messages in chats will also remain in place.
