How to view the call history of a specific contact on Android: all methods

Call history on Android stores not only numbers, but also a complete history of interactions with each contact - from missed calls to the duration of calls. However, finding entries for a specific subscriber t is not always intuitive: the standard Phone application often shows a general list, and filtering by contacts is hidden deep in the menu. It’s even more difficult if you use Samsung One UI, MIUI or ColorOS —each manufacturer has its own approach to organizing the log.

In this article we will analyze all current ways to view call history for a selected contact, including hidden functions of the standard application, third-party utilities and methods for recovering deleted records. We will pay special attention to the differences between Android shells and the nuances of working with duplicate numbers (for example, when one person is saved in the phone book twice).

1. Standard method: filtering through the Phone application

Most Android smartphones allow you to view call history for a specific contact directly from the phone book. The algorithm of actions depends on the version of the shell, but the general logic remains the same:

1. Open the application Phone (icon with a handset).
2. Go to the tab Contact (usually at the bottom of the screen).
3. Find the desired contact by searching or scrolling the list.
4. Tap the contact's name to open their card.
5. Scroll down to the block History or Log calls.

On pure Android (for example, Google Pixel) the history is displayed immediately below the phone number. In shells Samsung One UI or Xiaomi MIUI you may need to click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the contact card and select Show log.

If there are several numbers in the contact card, the history will be shown separately for each. To merge entries, click on the arrow next to the main number and select Show all calls (not available on all devices).

⚠️ Attention: On some devices Huawei and Honor c EMUI call history for a contact may not be displayed if calls were made through applications like WhatsApp or Viber. In this case, use the methods from section 4.

2. Search by call log: quick filter

If the contact is not saved in the phone book or you want to find all calls from a specific number (including unknown ones), use the built-in search in the log:

1. Open the application Phone and go to the tab Magazine (or Recent).
2. Click on the magnifying glass icon (Search) at the top of the screen.
3. Enter the contact's name or phone number.
4. The system will display all matches, including incoming, outgoing and missed calls.

On Samsung Galaxy the search supports filtering by call type: after entering the query, click on the three dots on the right and select Filterto leave only outgoing or skipped ones. On Xiaomi a similar function is called Sorting.

If the search does not find the required entries, check if they are hidden. On Android 12+ some calls may be archived automatically. To get them back, go to Settings → Applications → Phone → Memory → Clear cache.

3. Exporting call history to a file (for analysis or backup)

If you need to save call history for a specific contact (for example, for reporting or litigation), it can be exported in .csv or .xmlformat. This method works on most devices without root access:

1. Open the application Phone and go to Journal.
2. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select Settings (or Call management).
3. Find section Export/Import or Backup.
4. Select Export call log and specify the period (for example, Last 3 months).
5. The file will be saved in folder Download or on Google Drive.

On Samsung the path may differ: Settings → Device maintenance → Storage → Data → Export call data. After exporting, open the file in Excel or Google Sheets and filter the rows by contact number.

Please note: the exported file may contain metadatasuch as the date, time and duration of the call, but does not always include a recording of the conversation (if it was required to record calls, for example Cube Call Recorder.

4. Viewing history through third-party applications

Standard Android tools are not always convenient for working with call history. Third-party applications offer advanced functions:

3. CallApp - offers call analytics (for example, the average duration of calls with a contact) and integration with WhatsApp/Messenger.

2. Start scanning the internal memory (select partition /data).
3. In the results, find files with the extension .db or .sqlitecontaining calllog in the name.
4. Export the file and open it via SQLite Browser.
